Castlevania (/ˈkوsəlˌveɪniə/) is an action-adventure gothic horror video game series created and developed by Konami. It has been released on various platforms, from early systems to modern consoles, as well as handheld devices such as mobile phones. Originally released September 26, 1986 in Japan for Nintendo’s Family Computer Disk System, Castlevania featured the vampire hunter Simon Belmont on his quest to destroy the evil Count Dracula.

The Castlevania series has been around now for 39 years, and even the original is still impressively made and fun to play, which is certainly not true of all its peers.
