Blizzard’s upcoming mobile Diablo game has had quite a rocky road, but is looking to finally be shaping up nicely.

The previews from this year’s BlizzCon are looking quite good, but the reveal of Diablo Immortal at last year’s BlizzCon caused quite a bit of drama. Not necessarily because anything was majorly wrong with the game, or wrong with the idea of creating a mobile Diablo game, but because some fans were concerned that Blizzard was abandoning development of Diablo 4 for PC in favor of mobile.

This year, with the focus at BlizzCon primarily on the reveal of the long awaited Diablo 4, the primary fears associated with Diablo Immortal have largely been squelched.

The developer preview of Diablo Immortal is looking very cool and I can’t wait to try some of the new abilities and ultimates.

Also, if it’s done right, hopefully the controls will be intuitive for mobile and truly innovate how a game like Diablo can work when it is designed for Mobile from the ground up.

There are a few recent mobile games that have really nailed the controls for a mobile format, like Asphalt 8 & 9, Mario Kart Tour, and COD Mobile, and I hope Diablo Immortal follows in their footsteps.

While a release date still hasn’t been announced, some people estimate it to be about six months away since you can already preorder it on the Google Play store which would mean it could release in the March to April 2020 timeframe.

Let’s hope it comes sooner rather than later.
