For weeks, Mortal Kombat creator, Ed Boon, had been teasing a new Mortal Kombat reveal coming (“koming”?) soon, and finally it was revealed that the new trailer would drop today, May 18, at 9:00 ET.

And what a trailer it was…

In the trailer, Fire God Liu Kang has created a new world, a “New Era”, that will reset the storyline in the Mortal Kombat universe.
The trailer hints at the player being able to make choices, which sounds almost like the game could have a morality system, but it remains to be seen just how much control you will have, or whether it’s simply part of the new plot and the gameplay will remain largely the same (but hopefully with new, super awesome fatalities).
Mortal Kombat 11 will be released on September 15, 2023 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC/Steam. It will also be available on Nintendo Switch, but at this time I assume that will be a cloud gaming title, much like the modern Resident Evil games.
Confirmed characters returning include Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, and Johnny Cage, but others are also promised (however, not yet named).
For players who preorder the game on Xbox Series and PS5, they will get access to the Mortal Kombat 1 Beta which will launch in August. The standard edition will retail for $69.99.
There will also be a Premium edition, that will retail for $109.99, and include the base game, the Kombat Pack, and 1,250 Dragon Crystals (which act as in-game currency). One of the most exciting things (for me) about the Kombat Pack is that it will include a skin for Johnny Cage which make him look like action super star Jean Claude Van Damme, who Cage’s character was originally modeled after. There will also be a premium Kollector’s edition, which will retail for $249.99 and include everything in the Premium edition, plus a 16.5-inch Liu Kang sculpture designed by COARSE and an inspired Liu Kang in-game character skin, three exclusive art prints, a steel case, and 1,450 additional Dragon Krystals (2,700 total).
