Today, in the final installment of GamaChronicles: Castlevania, we are going to look at the Lords of Shadow series.

The game was originally announced as Lords of Shadow with no connection to the Castlevania series mentioned. This was done to keep their plans to radically change the direction of the Castlevania mythos a secret and to prevent the announcement of the game from upstaging another series release, Castlevania Judgment.

Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear series, helped produce the title. The music was composed by Spanish composer Óscar Araujo, who was acclaimed for his work on the game.
The game sold well and received positive reviews from video game publications. It was praised for new elements it provided to the franchise, although this was also the subject of criticism as it did not retain traits from previous Castlevania games. Wikipedia

Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate HD

Mirror of Fate HD is the upgraded console release of the 3DS game: Mirror of Fate. We are going to focus on the HD console version since it received some much needed updates from the portable 3DS version. Basically, given the choice, you should skip the 3DS version altogether, forget it ever existed, and just go straight to the console version.
Mirror of Fate HD is the direct sequel to the first Lords of Shadow, and its story picks up right where Lords of Shadow concludes. You get to play as Trevor Belmont, Simon Belmont and Alucard in separate stories that all come together by the end of the game.
Simon is the son of Trevor and Sypha Belmont. At the age of six, Simon’s parents were murdered by the forces of Dracula and Simon was lucky to escape with his own life. Lost and alone, he was found in the forest by some of the mountain people. Simon was taken in and raised amongst them. Simon never forgot what had happened to his parents and vowed to deliver vengeance one day upon those responsible. He trained hard and was extremely gifted in combat, yet life was hard for young Simon growing up.
Always an outcast amongst the tribe, he developed a strong will and stubborn attitude that would always boil over into rage, and men soon came to fear him and his prowess in the arts of war. He fiercely protected a fragment of mirror given to him by his father and always wore it around his neck for safekeeping. Many years passed, yet the rage and yearning for revenge never left his heart. So one day he left the relative safety of the mountains and headed towards the land of his birth, to seek out the one they call the Dragon, to meet him face to face, and destroy him forever, little knowing that the curse of his family name would lead him into darkness and a terrible truth. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow II

Be warned, the plot description on Wikipedia is full of spoilers. A non-spoiler version is below:
A thousand years have passed and Dracula awakens in a cathedral in modern times, weak from starvation and with no memory of the circumstances that led him there. He is warned by his former enemy, Zobek, of the return of Satan, who until then was deterred from doing so by Dracula himself. Zobek offers him his old weapon, the Vampire Killer, the only relic capable of ending his cursed existence, in exchange for him vanquishing the people trying to bring Satan back, his acolytes.
The key to him regaining his power lies in his castle, which the cursed blood that kept it alive for centuries attempts to deter Dracula of his quest. Throughout his journey, Dracula is aided by various allies, including Zobek’s bodyguard and specters of his deceased wife Marie and a younger Trevor. He also encounters the Brotherhood of Light and its current leader, Victor Belmont.
